Argon Phosphor Plasma Globe: high voltage glow discharge of low pressure argon in a mix of gasses which create plasma filaments that emit line spectra mostly at frequencies between blue and ultraviolet. The UV emissions then excite a thin coating of phosphors to produce the green light. A small high frequency coil at center creates the high voltage potential between the center electrode and a very thin metal coating on the glass globe.
